How do I skip a cutscene?

Tap anywhere on the screen. To see fewer of them, open Options (or Pause during a match) and set Cutscenes to KEY or NONE.

How do I castle?

Tap your king, then the square two steps toward the rook; the rook jumps to the square the king crossed. Castling is only allowed if neither the king nor that rook has moved, the squares between them are empty, and the king is not in check, does not cross an attacked square and does not land on one. An attacked rook can still castle.

Why can't I undo a move?

Undo is a practice feature available only in games without a clock. Official chess rules don't allow taking moves back.

The draw button turned gold. What does that mean?

You can claim a draw: the same position (same pieces, same player to move, same castling and en passant rights) has occurred three times, or each side has played 50 moves with no capture or pawn move. Tap it to claim. At five repetitions or 75 moves the draw is automatic, unless the last move is checkmate.

Why did the game end in a draw when my opponent ran out of time?

Under FIDE rules, when a player's time runs out, the game is a draw instead of a loss if the other player could not checkmate by any sequence of legal moves (for example, a lone king).

The animations make me uncomfortable.

Turn on Reduce Motion in Options. It removes screen shakes, flashes and bouncing. The app starts with this on if Reduce Motion is enabled in your iPhone's Accessibility settings.

I have trouble telling the highlight colors apart.

Turn on Colorblind Mode in Options. Check, captures and the last move switch to a colorblind-safe pair, and the markers change shape too.

Where is my lesson progress saved?

On your iPhone only. It is part of your device backups, but it doesn't move between devices by itself, and restoring the purchase doesn't restore it.

How do I restore the Full Path purchase?

Open Learn, tap a locked chapter and choose Restore Purchase. You need an internet connection and the same Apple Account you bought it with.

Does CheckPixel need internet or collect my data?

Games, lessons and puzzles work offline; buying, restoring and Game Center need internet. The app has no accounts, ads or tracking. See the privacy policy.
